Sam Robertson, who plays Adam Barlow in Coronation Street, has committed to the role for another year.
Though he had a somewhat different appearance at the time, Johnny Briggs played the beloved attorney with the amazing weave who was the son of Cockney factory owner Mike Baldwin. The part was originally played by future Marvel actor Iain De Caestecker.
The character had never before been mentioned, so we were supposed to believe that, while living in Scotland with his mother Susan Barlow (Joanna Foster), he had been kept a closely-guarded secret.
After his mother perished in a horrifying automobile crash that Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) instigated, he attended boarding school and subsequently returned with a new face—of course, now depicted by Sam—another instance of retroactively altering the narrative of the show.
He stayed in the job until 2007, when he moved away to start a bookmakers with uncle Peter (Chris Gascoyne). After grandpa Ken’s (William Roache) stroke in 2016, he returned on a regular basis.
Over the last few years, Adam has played a prominent role in the ITV soap opera, becoming involved in the affairs of criminal Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) and his wife Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien).
After their breakup, it appeared as though he and his coworker Alya Nazir (Sair Khan) were developing a romantic relationship. However, he was devastated to learn that she had relocated to Ireland to start a new career.
Now that Sam has decided to stay on Coronation Street for an additional year, it appears that the beloved character will be subjected to even more drama (and perhaps some happiness) at the hands of the writers.
“It’s going to be an exciting year; they have some good storylines in the works for his character,” an insider told The Sun. “Everyone was so happy Sam agreed to stay another year.”
Hopefully, this indicates that once Alya gets back from work, he’ll be seeing her again. The actress Sair’s maternity leave was the reason for the brief departure.
In the upcoming months, it permits at least twenty more amazing hairstyles.
