Emmerdale legend confirms end of the road for much-loved couple

Emmerdale actress Charlotte Bellamy has been considering what has been a challenging few weeks for her character and what lies ahead now Laurel Thomas’s romance with Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) has been damaged.

Laurel developed mistrust of Jai, who was fighting with Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) at The Hide, recently on the ITV serial.

Eric finally broke as he wound Jai up over free drinks, but it occurred directly in front of Laurel.

Jai realized he had to expose his truth and was forced into a corner at home. He then told Laurel that after learning about Rishi’s true death, his biological father Amit sought retribution before leaving the town.

After a disagreement over business and money last year, Amit threw his brother down the stairs, killing Rishi.

Jai advised Amit to give over his HOP! shares, depart for India, and never go back after learning the truth about him and his crooked business practices.

Laurel was very disgusted to hear her husband and learn what he was capable of when pushed to the very brink. The tension became too much soon after this disclosure and she had a heart attack.

For Laurel, these have been fairly few weeks. She made it plain to Jai while she healed in the hospital that they would not be continuing their marriage for whatever reason, but he does not appear to be absorbing the message!

“I don’t think there’s any way back for them as a couple now, sadly…,” actress Charlotte Bellamy remarked in a discussion with Inside Soap.

Indeed, she is firmly adhering to her guns. She also considers the kindness of Ashley, her late husband, and how nobody else will ever measure up to him. While Jai is a rotter, he was almost saintly!

Her heart attack caused her to reevaluate her life and see things for what they are, she said.

She had recognized her husband for what he is, and it coincided with learning what Jai did with Amit and accepting the company shares. Laurel gets another shot in life; does she truly want to be with a guy like that?

Thinking ahead to watch her character negotiate life as a single mother, Charlotte is pondering Laurel’s destiny.

That would be fascinating to investigate, in my opinion. She speaks for many early 50-year women who are on their own and parenting children.

She will undoubtedly have some dalliances and maybe even attempt online dating, but about another long-term relationship I’m not sure. Seeing her suddenly single on the road may be interesting.
