On what would have been the late actor Bill Tarmey’s birthday, Coronation Street star Alan Halsall paid homage to the legendary soap opera star.

The 41-year-old actor, who portrayed Jack Duckworth in the soap opera, posted a photo of himself puckering up to the late actor.

The seasoned actor, who was 71 years old at the time, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack while on vacation in Tenerife.

“Happy Heavenly Birthday, Bill,” he wrote. I’m always thinking about you, miss you, buddy.

Despite their many arguments and the occasional extramarital affair, Jack and Vera—played by the late Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn—are perhaps one of the most legendary Corrie couples ever.

Jack survived for two more years after Vera passed away in 2008, during which he received a non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis.

Vera, the love of his life, reappeared in a famous moment that marked the couple’s ultimate goodbye.

Bill resigned the soap opera because of his personal health issues, and he subsequently disclosed that he did so in order to care for his son Carl, who had been diagnosed with a brain tumour the year before.

“I’ve had the most amazing 30 years playing Jack,” he stated in a statement announcing his departure. I’ve visited the globe and met amazing friends because of him. I hate having to say goodbye.

The late actor had previously said that he made the decision to quit the soap opera in order to take care of his son Carl, who had received a brain cancer diagnosis.

“They would have had to drag me out of there screaming,” he said to ITV in the absence of this incident. That was an amazing, gory job—especially for an elderly coffin-dodger.
