In response to EastEnders viewers who recently voiced their opinions over Dean Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) extorting Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) over her 2014 rape, the BBC has reacted.

Dean was hospitalised shortly after arriving back in Walford after being shoved down the stairs by George Knight (Colin Salmon).

Linda confronted Dean in the hospital, and when he threatened to report George’s assault to the police, she bowed to his demand that she tell everyone she had lied about being raped.

A number of viewers expressed their “disgust” on social media after the scenes, which aired at the end of November, when Dean recorded Linda lying to him about wanting sex that night and claiming she was raped because she was afraid of her husband Mick’s reaction.

Some people said they couldn’t stand to watch the scenes, while others said they were worried about how this tale might effect actual rape and sexual assault survivors since it gives the incorrect idea.

The BBC released a statement last week (December 6) in response to fan feedback on this particular aspect of Linda and Dean’s storyline.

According to the synopsis, “We heard from viewers who were worried that Linda was coerced into denying a rape accusation.”

“EastEnders is a fictional drama that has a rich history of tackling sensitive issues and Linda’s story is one of these,” the broadcaster said in response. Since the September 2014 airing of Linda’s rape narrative, fans have been aware that Dean has never acknowledged his guilt.

“While dramas frequently depict circumstances that might not be identical to real life, we think that our audience is aware of this and that regular EastEnders viewers will be aware that these scenes are a part of a larger storyline in which the issue will be addressed once more.”

As one of The Six, the group of ladies who will be at the bar when a dead body is found, Linda will play a significant role in this year’s Christmas Day episode.

Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), and Denise Fox (Diane Parish) are the other members of the six. It is possible that the following male victims are also on the list: Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), Dean, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara), Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry), and Rocky (Brian Conley].
