After a year of portraying Cassie Plummer on Coronation Street, Claire Sweeney spoke candidly about her time spent on the cobbles with William Roache.

‘Coronation Street’ mainstay William Roache has said that Claire Sweeney is “nervous” about spending screen time with him. The 53-year-old actress was shocked to learn that she would be collaborating closely with Roache’s character Ken Barlow after joining the ITV serial opera last year as Cassie Plummer, a homeless heroin user.

According to OK! magazine, she stated: “I was very ensconced in the Dobbs’ house with Maureen Lipman and Alan Halsall and then suddenly I heard whispers that I had a storyline with Bill [Roache’s].”

Claire said she was nervous on the first day of shooting, but Roache was a huge comfort. She revealed: “I told him, ‘Look, I’m nervous,’ on our first day of filming, and he was incredibly warm and kind.” I’ve just lived here a year, yet already I feel very privileged and fortunate to have this plot.”

Even though their characters had difficult starts, Claire was excited to show how they finally bonded on television. She continued: “There’s a lovely scene with him where she says, ‘Look, sometimes you’ve got to allow yourself to be helped.'” .

Over lunch, the two have a lighthearted scene that suggests a budding camaraderie between their characters. “They laugh together over lunch, and it’s evident that they make good company,” Claire said. She’s made him feel a bit more energetic, and she feels helpful and valued now. So it has been successful for them both.

Claire still fantasises about getting into a classic “Corrie” fight, however. “I would love to have a scrap on the cobbles!” she said. My fave moment from “Corrie” is the one when Eileen and Gail fight, so I’d be down for a small skirmish. Those sequences are legendary.

Claire just signed a new one-year contract and said that she would be staying on the programme for another year. She revealed her excitement in an interview with Cheshire Life magazine, saying, “I’m really happy to fully invest all my time and energy into Cassie and see what develops. I just signed my contract for another year in ‘Corrie.'”
