Coronation Street cast’s emotional Rob Burrow tribute following death after he supported Motor Neurone Disease story

The Coronation Street cast has honoured Rob Burrow after his passing.

In 2019, Rob retired from rugby league, and two years later, he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

The renowned scrum-half and hooker was also well-known for his amazing charitable work; earlier this year, his MBE was raised to a CBE.

The Burrow family released a statement saying, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend.”

Throughout his life, Rob has consistently been an inspiration, whether it is on the rugby league pitch or in his fight against motor neurone disease (MND).

He never let other people tell him what was possible and always had faith in his own abilities to accomplish more. Rob was very touched by the abundance of love and support that he and the Burrow family had experienced over the last four and a half years. Thank you for your support, especially to the rugby league family and the MND community, who have come together to encourage Rob.

The statement went on: “Rob’s perseverance and spirit in the face of motor neuron disease over the last four and a half years came as no surprise to those who knew him throughout his life.” Rob never gave up on his ability to do a task; instead, he just figured out how to do it better than everyone else.

He will never stop inspiring us all on a daily basis. In this world of hardships, we need to have the courage to dream.

Daniel Brocklebank and Peter Ash of Coronation Street are two of the many who have participated in honouring Rob.

In the ITV soap opera, Daniel plays Billy Mayhew and Peter plays Paul Foreman. Rob Borrows and his spouse Lindsey visited the set last year to talk about Billy and Paul’s plot, which has them coping with Paul’s MND diagnosis.

The Coronation Street account posted a gorgeous photo of Rob and Lindsey with Peter and Daniel at Billy and Paul’s apartment on Instagram.

“We are very sad to hear of the passing of Rugby League legend Rob Burrow,” the caption said. Rob inspired a great number of people throughout his fight with motor neurone disease, helping to raise money and awareness for this debilitating condition.

Last year, Rob and his spouse Lindsey were invited to the cobbles to meet Peter Ash and Dan Brocklebank and talk about our MND plot. During this difficult moment, our thoughts are with his friends and family.

Peter and Daniel both posted their own notes on Instagram. “Such sad news today ????,” Peter remarked. What a myth. Rest in peace, Rob Burrow. My thoughts are with his lovely family. Daniel wrote: “I’m absolutely devastated to hear that the legend and MND warrior Rob Burrow passed away today.” I’m sending love and good thoughts to Rob’s amazing wife Lindsey, as well as their lovely kids. Over the last several years, getting to know them has been an honour.

“As representatives of the @mndassoc, we shall not give up.” We WILL be able to treat this terrible illness together. Rob, go to sleep. ❤️

Rob commended the ITV soap opera for bringing attention to motor neurone illness back in April 2023.

“Thanks for the invite to come to the best soap on TV,” he stated as he was touring the set. Being here with my family makes me very joyful.

“The response I’ve received has amazed me, but Coronation Street will raise awareness to a whole new level.”

“A significant difference will be made on behalf of the MND community.”
