Coronation Street signs soap legend to play scheming battleaxe with a score to settle

Coronation Street is set to welcome a new character to the cobbles in the coming weeks, with Joel Deering’s disapproving mum Anthea ruffling feathers upon her arrival

On Coronation Street, a renowned soap star is scheduled to make an appearance, and the newcomer is causing a stir. Carol Royle plays Joel Deering (Calum Lil), whose mother Anthea Deering will soon pay him a visit.

She is well-known for her roles in television programmes including The Bill, Doctors, and Casualty. Carol also played Jenny Russell in the BBC series Life Without George and Lady Patricia Brewster in the film Heartbeat.

When Anthea gets to Weatherfield, she is supposed to meet Joel’s girlfriend Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown), but things don’t work out at their meeting at the café. After Anthea made several remarks regarding Dee-Dee’s family, she eventually leaves the venue.

Whether Anthea will reconcile with Dee-Dee and integrate herself into Joel and her life is still up in the air. Additionally, it’s unclear how long she plans to remain on the cobbles.

The mystery surrounding Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) disappearance is building to a peak when Anthea arrives. The teenager vanished earlier this year without leaving any trace, and Roy Cropper (David Neilson), who is presently serving a jail sentence after being wrongfully convicted of her murder, is represented by Dee-Dee.

Fans, nevertheless, believe Joel could have something to do with Lauren’s disappearance. After groomer Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) was taken into custody in relation to the crime, the attorney consented to defend him.

After his release from jail earlier this year, Nathan has returned to Weatherfield. In 2017, he was imprisoned for manipulating and taking advantage of Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon). Supporters have questioned Joel’s decision to take up Nathan’s case, and some believe it may have been part of a plot to discredit the prisoner and hide Joel’s own role in Lauren’s abduction.

Thanks to many special Corrie episodes, viewers will eventually learn what happened to the teen. Beginning on Monday, May 27, Coronation Street has been airing one episode per night, with many character points of view. The episode airing on Thursday, May 30, will reveal the fate of missing adolescent Lauren.

In a trailer, viewers got their first look at the horrifying situation that poor Lauren was going through. The adolescent was spotted trying to escape her flat, but someone wearing a mask behind her covered her lips. Despite blood being discovered in Lauren’s flat, the soap opera has not officially declared her dead, and some viewers think she may still be alive.
