Coronation Street’s Joel Deering star Calum Lill breaks silence after Lauren Bolton murder twist

Coronation Street aired a shocking twist on Thursday night as the killer of Lauren Bolton was finally revealed – and actor Calum Lill has opened up on the storyline

On Thursday night, May 30, Coronation Street unleashed a bombshell by revealing in a terrifying flashback sequence who killed Lauren Bolton. Since then, actor Calum Lill has discussed the unexpected narrative turn.

As fans will recall, Roy Cropper was recently wrongfully charged and taken into custody following the abduction of Lauren Bolton, for which he was held accountable. Earlier this year, the unhappy young girl had inexplicably vanished from the cobbles; her buddy Bobby was concerned when he found her flat vacant and unlocked.

It didn’t appear that Lauren had told anybody close to her that she was leaving Weatherfield—not even Roy—and her departure was never depicted on TV. Because of his kind disposition, Roy came under investigation after reporting Lauren, played by Cait Fitton, missing.

His seemingly harmless act of tidying Lauren’s flat aroused suspicions and made some people think he was responsible. Internet detectives began to misuse this online in large quantities as a result.

In the episode that aired on Thursday, DS Lisa Swain and rookie Kit—played by former Hollyoaks actor Jacob Roberts—thought they had the case solved when they apprehended Nathan Curtis, a notorious abuser who was last seen on television in 2017 after being found guilty of luring and abusing young females. Joel Deering represented Nathan during their interrogation in his cell, and a disconcerting flashback revealed Nathan was the one responsible.

Later on in the episode, though, it was shockingly revealed that Joel was, in fact, the one who killed Lauren.

Joel’s actor, Calum Lill, revealed some details about the plot and that he had known about it for a year.

Regarding the cliffhanger from Thursday, he said, “I’m relieved as well as scared. For more than a year, I had known this. Joel was described as a lovely individual with a dark side in the breakdown that I received last May. They remarked, “Okay, this is what Joel is going to be doing,” after I received the screen test. “Oh my goodness, this person is really awful,” was my initial thinking. And I have to spend a year hiding in plain sight.”

Lill continued talking about Joel’s future, saying, “I believe he’s attempting to determine how many loose ends there may be and how to handle them. Being a defence attorney, he is obviously skilled at the game, aware that there is a reasonable doubt, and aware that he must disprove any evidence that would implicate him. However, this is unfamiliar ground for him. It’s possible that he has previously engaged in illegal activity and mistreated others. However, since this is new, I believe he is truly concerned. So that no one ever guesses that it may be Joel, he has to make it stick on Nathan.”

“I hope Joel’s very good at hiding because I really enjoy coming to work,” the actor said, “but for soap justice I know that at some point he’s going to be found out!” The actor also shared his thoughts for the future of his character.
