Dean Andrews, the legendary cast member of Emmerdale, was taken to the hospital and had extensive surgery.

The 60-year-old actor gained notoriety for his role as Will Taylor in the BBC drama Life on Mars and the ITV soap opera.

Dean posted pictures of himself from his hospital bed with followers on Thursday, revealing that he had experienced a severe health scare. He also said he was “glad I woke up” after the treatment.

Dean seemed frail but happy in an Instagram picture, grinning and giving the camera two thumbs up while wearing a medical gown and a cannula.

“Surgery went well,” he wrote. really glad to have woken up. Many thanks to Chris, my surgeon, and the whole team.

Although Dean did not provide specifics on his condition, he did mention Sheffield’s Thornbury Hospital in his letter.

Fans and friends have showered him with words of encouragement; his daughter Sharny said, “well done for being so brave.”

Poppy Smith sent her “best wishes for a speedy recovery,” while Snippy Sue remarked, “get well soon, gorgeous, take it easy.”

Less than a year has passed since he wed his fiancée Helen Bowen-Green in a late summer wedding attended by friends and family, including Claire King, his on-screen wife and Kim Tate in the serial opera.

Dean’s first grandson, Hendrix, was born to his daughter Shaarny shortly after, bringing the family even more joyous news.

A week before to his hasty trip to the hospital, Dean posted a picture of his grandson and daughter having lunch and affectionately referred to them as his “two beauties.”
