Emmerdale spoiler video: Bob Hope’s almighty shock at Cathy’s decision that will change her life

After it was established that Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling) had PMDD, she was just given a definitive diagnosis on Emmerdale.

A severe kind of premenstrual syndrome, premenstrual dysphoric disorder produces a wide variety of sometimes quite severe physical and mental symptoms.

Cathy has gone through uncontrollably violent outbursts and mood swings. Sometimes she becomes very depressed and nervous, and she has to redo her senior year of school as her symptoms prevented her from taking her examinations.

A video snippet from tonight’s (September 14) episode depicts Cathy, who is determined to solve an issue that she’s been warned might last for decades. She comes up with an idea that shocks Bob (Tony Audenshaw).

Evidently, Cathy just dropped this bombshell, and as she rushes to school, Bob and Wendy (Susan Cookson) try to catch up with her.

Cathy claims that despite being given antidepressants to assist her manage her problems, she hasn’t taken them.

“There’s no purpose,” she maintains. “PMDD has only one treatment.” Wendy tells her that there is no cure, but Cathy isn’t going to listen to her as she just learned about Wendy’s extramarital affair with Liam (Jonny McPherson).

Displays your knowledge. “You’re just a nurse,” Cathy angrily tells her. Then, she offers her suggested fix for the issue, which is, to put it mildly, harsh.

“I’ve told you what I want: the removal of my ovaries and womb!” After conducting some internet study, Cathy notes that this drastic procedure would end her menstrual cycle.

In an attempt to demonstrate that she is more than “just” a nurse, Wendy can’t help but use medical jargon. However, she correctly notes that Cathy is too young to be making such a choice and that this is a step that typically only much older women do.

Furthermore, no doctor would consent to do the procedure on a patient who was that young, according to Wendy.

Bob attempts to delay the choice until “you’re thinking a bit clearer,” but Cathy is in a precarious situation.

“I detest my life, and you seem indifferent to it!” Her dad is devastated when she loses her temper.

Will Bob persuade his daughter to reconsider?

These scenes from Emmerdale will be shown on ITV1 and ITVX on Thursday, September 14, at 7:30 p.m.
