This week, Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) and Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) return to Coronation Street in anticipation of Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) learning that Cassie is still alive.
A few weeks earlier, Cassie and Evelyn decided it would be best for Cassie to enroll in a treatment facility in order to attempt to live a drug-free life. As a result, they left the cobbles.
Evelyn makes the decision to rent a unit at the precinct while they are on their way back in order to maintain some space between Tyrone and Cassie.
There, she also gets a message from Ty asking her to come to Ruby and Hope’s performance at the Bistro. However, Evelyn decides she can’t leave Cassie alone and can’t go.
Even though Evelyn has been clean for weeks, Cassie is able to persuade her that going out for coffee would be a good idea. Nevertheless, Evelyn decides to go to the Bistro instead to meet Ty.
When Ty is face to face with Cassie, he thinks she is Cath, James’ friend, and he queries whether she has heard from Evelyn.
Then, a panicked Evelyn dashes into the eatery, arriving just in time to hear Cassie tell Tyrrone that she is his mother!
as eating breakfast, Cassie is back in the apartment with Evelyn, who berates her for the horrific mess she’s made as Tyrone muses on what to do with her.
Later, Evelyn contacts Tyrone at the garage and tells him that she was simply trying to protect him and that her intention was to come clean with him once she was certain Cassie was clean.
Tyrone walks over to the precinct apartment on the advise of Kev (Michael Le Vell) and Abi (Sally Carman), but what will he say to Evelyn and his mother?
Fundamentally, she does love Evelyn—she is, after all, her mother—but she struggles to forget the wrongs she committed against Evelyn as a child and teenager, and ultimately, as an adult, when she persisted in lying about her and abandoned Cassie’s child on the steps of a police station.
Cassie thinks a compromise might have been reached to keep Tyrone in the family. Evelyn returned after that and began enjoying her time as a grandmother without Cassie.
