Viewers of Coronation Street have sensed something between Carla Connor (Alison King) and DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) in recent scenes, as the detective seemed to be falling deeply in love with the head of the factory.
DS Swain and Carla have spent a lot of time together, particularly in the last few episodes, when DS Swain spoke candidly about her family’s struggles after her wife Becky passed away 2.5 years ago.
Following their hearts, both ladies ended up performing enormous favours for one another: Carla gave DS Swain’s daughter some work experience, while DS Swain encouraged Roy Cropper (David Neilson) to forgive Carla.
Sadly, as actress Alison King disclosed, the flirtatious banter these two have been exchanging in recent scenes may not develop into anything more.
Carla isn’t thinking about getting into another relationship, she said while discussing what lies ahead for her romantic life.
“She’s definitely not got her eye on anybody, and I don’t think she’s ready for another relationship at all,” Alison said. Think of us as defeated.
“I don’t believe she has given it much thought.” It seems like the last thing she is thinking about.
Think of us as doubly devastated.
After a tumultuous few years, Carla recently forced her marriage to Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) to an end. Peter left Weatherfield to pursue a job on a boat.
“She made a really mature decision to end her relationship with Peter at the beginning of the year, not only for his benefit but also for both of their mental health,” stated Alison.
Ever then, her year has been very hectic due to the birth of her nephew Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) and Roy’s incarceration, which has consumed the most of her time.
“I believe she had a strong start to the year.” Naturally, Bobby then appeared, and she handled the situation in a wonderfully constructive manner as well.
She was apprehensive, as anybody would be, about the implications of his being Rob’s kid, but she handled it head-on and in a really mature manner.
‘I believe this mother instinct has gotten a little entrenched and that has kicked in, after all the support she provided Ryan.
She is obviously heartbroken by Roy’s situation, but she is trying to support him. She is fierce, assertive, and not going to take no for an answer from anybody. She is in charge of her life once again.
Although Alison is insistent that a romance is not in the works, and Carla is very much in her own lane, actress Vicky Myers has previously disclosed that DS Swain is eyeing someone.
“I believe she may have seen someone who has caught her attention, but she is currently far too preoccupied with this investigation, her career, being a single mother, and balancing her home life with her teenage daughter.”
Can Carla and DS Swain try things out after the inquiry into Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) murder finally ends?
Or is Swain destined to experience heartbreak?
