Coronation Street’s Billy vows to stand by terrified Paul after cheating near-miss

The couple are staying together.

In tonight’s Coronation Street (5th July), Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) vowed to support boyfriend Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) despite the latter’s distressing confession.

The week before, when Billy and Paul’s mother Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) were fussing over him and using their respective religious convictions to fight each other, terminally sick Paul stormed off.

Then, just as Paul was about to make a grave error, he bumped into an old flame named Zac at a nearby hotel. However, after a quick kiss, Paul declined the offer.

When a drunk Paul woke up in a hotel room, he discovered that Zac had robbed him and then changed his phone number. Zac had subsequently stolen the £800 raised through the fundraiser.

Once he got home, Paul tried to continue on as usual, but when Billy suggested using the money from the charity to buy a stairlift and offered to deposit it, Paul lost it. Then, his humiliation came to the surface, and he admitted to Billy that the previous night, he had almost committed adultery.

Paul admitted that Zac had taken the hard-earned donation money after he explained that he withdrew rather than push the situation any further. Billy left the apartment after being angry and rendered mute.

Bernie was escorted back to the hotel after Paul told her what had transpired, where they told terrified owner Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) that her plumber, Zac, was a thief, but there was still no way to get in touch with him.

Later, as Zac entered the Rovers, Bernie closed the doors before confronting him. But Zac returned the money after learning of Paul’s condition.

Paul and Gemma Brown had a heart-to-heart in Gemma’s (Dolly-Rose Campbell’s) house where he could see that she was also having difficulties. While Paul asked her to do the same with her husband Chesney (Sam Aston), she convinced Paul to go confront Billy and be open and honest about what he was going through.

Billy, in the meantime, lashed out at Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) for betraying him. She asked Billy to try and comprehend what had caused Paul’s actions while not endorsing them and to try and forgive Paul.

Billy and Paul had a candid chat after they got home, during which Paul vowed not to injure Billy ever again. Then Billy listened as Paul described how much his MND was causing him to struggle and how helpless he felt.

Billy expressed regret for the previous conflict with Bernie, and the two decided to get past Paul’s error. Billy promised he would be staying, and Paul acknowledged how afraid he was. Can they put the previous events behind them?
