When Charity Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd (played by Lawrence Robb and Emma Atkins) shared a bed before Reuben’s baptism in Emmerdale, was it a moment of lunacy or were they just two people doing what they felt was right?

That was the issue that they were both debating when the baptism was happening on Thursday, August 24.

Prior to it, a remorseful Mackenzie had found Moira (Natalie J. Robb) and informed her what had occurred. While Charity was the only person who had ever really understood him, he acknowledged that being with Chloe (Jessie Elland) was like “shelter in a hurricane.”

Moira had no question. He may lose Reuben if he decided to go with Charity. She advised him to make a choice and then stay with it in either case.

Charity needed a confidant at the Woolpack, so she spoke with Chas (Lucy Pargeter), who could see straight through Charity and didn’t trust her when she said that the experience with Mack had been meaningless. “Don’t leave yourself with any regrets,” Chas advised her. Charity expressed to Chas her desire to try again with Mackenzie.

Throughout the day, Mackenzie remained unsure. He confessed his love for Chloe at the church’s baptism ceremony, but was it really or was he just fooling himself?

He was instructed by Moira to tell Charity that there was no hope for their relationship and that he loved Chloe when he subsequently went looking for her at the Woolpack. But things didn’t work out that way. It didn’t take long for him to refer to Charity and himself as the “A Team,” alluding to their wedding, once the two of them got to chatting.

If Chas hadn’t entered at that precise time, who knows what may have transpired next? As it turned out, Mack went back to the baptismal celebration and Charity resumed staring at him from behind the bar.

Then Mack spoke when Chloe had finished. He referred to Chloe as his rock after deciding that she would be his future wife.

He responded, “You and Reuben mean everything to me. I’m the world’s luckiest guy, you know.

Charity was repulsed by this in public exhibition of devotion and left. Moira went after her. Charity was indignant and said that Mack had lifted her up before tossing her away because it fit his needs. She pleaded, “He can’t treat me like this!”

Don’t do something foolish, Moira pleaded with her.

Charity remained unresponsive. Before Moira could continue to complain, she remarked, “Maybe Chloe’s got a right to know what her precious boyfriend gets up to when she’s not around.”

Is Charity going to give Chloe the whole truth?
