The people of Emmerdale were very saddened by the passing of Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel). The well-known figure passed away while on route to Jai (Chris Bisson) and Laurel’s wedding; his body wasn’t discovered until Jai went in search of him the next morning.
Jai, who had always considered the guy to be his father, cradled Rishi in his arms as he struggled to come to terms with the reality that they had exchanged so many angry words, and that now he would never be able to express his love for Rishi.
Before the catastrophe, Jai had learned that he was adopted, and when he asked Rishi about it, he received evasive and distorted responses. The truth that Rishi’s brother Amit is Jai’s biological father was kept a secret until the day of the wedding. Georgia (Lin Blakley), the mother of Jai, and Amit had an affair that resulted in a pregnancy.
Rishi raised Jai as his son after marrying Georgia. Rishi had two other kids, Nikhil (Rik Makarem) and Priya (Fiona Wade), but he always treated Jai as if he were his own, making him the preferred child in many respects.
Naturally, there is a ton to take in, and Jai was clearly struggling in the episode that aired on Tuesday (August 1). He was attempting to manage all the administrative tasks that must be completed after a death, including planning Rishi’s burial, which would take place in India.
In light of Priya and Nikhil’s communication to confirm their attendance, Jai was now faced with a new dilemma: should he reveal to them that Amit is indeed his biological father?
He was confident that Rishi had not intended for Suni (Brahmdeo Shannon Ramana) to be aware that he is actually Jai’s brother as opposed to his cousin. Jai reasoned that if he informed Nikhil and Priya, Suni would eventually learn about it due of respect for Rishi’s desires.
Another concern was how he would react during the burial when he met the person he had previously known as “Uncle Amit,” knowing what the family’s past had been. Jai became enraged and yelled at Suni when she revealed that Amit had informed him that Jai hadn’t been responding to his texts.
Later, after talking to Laurel alone, he apologized, but Jai had already made up his mind. He desired for Laurel and himself to be the only one who knew that Amit was his biological father.
It’s difficult to keep secrets, Laurel added.
Jai said, “But it’s the right thing to do.”
