Emmerdale’s Jai stuns Laurel with nasty Ashley insult – and much worse follows

Jai spirals (Pictures: ITV)

In upcoming episodes of Emmerdale, Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) will face the consequences of his past deeds when his wife Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) approaches him about learning about his efforts to get his father Amit (Anil Goutam) to sign over his shares in HOP, defrauding Suni (Shannon Brahmdeo Ramana) of his share.

Jai snaps at Laurel in an attempt to conceal the truth, with disastrous results.

Jai desired retribution after learning that Rishi (Bhasker Patel), the man who raised him and whom he regards as his father, had died due to Amit’s actions. He achieved this by forcing Amit to down the stairs at Holdgate, following in Rishi’s footsteps. Even though Amit made it through the autumn, Jai kept him imprisoned until he consented to give up his shares.

After informing Suni that he didn’t believe Suni was capable of operating a firm and that he hadn’t left any shares to him, he later informed Suni that Amit had departed for India.

After Amit attempted to con him out of his money, Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell), who was involved in part of this, aroused Laurel’s suspicions by refusing to pay for drinks at the Hide and advising her to speak with Jai about it.

There will be conflict between Jai and Laurel in later episodes as she implores him to tell Suni the truth, but he claims he can’t handle it. The dispute heats up, and Jai starts to feel more and more pressured. He finally loses it and insults Laurel’s late husband Ashley (John Middleton), saying the worst thing he could have said to her.

Beloved Emmerdale vicar Ashley passed away in 2017 from pneumonia after years of dementia, with Laurel at his side.

Jai’s harsh remarks enrage and distress Laurel, who tells him to leave. She passes out and falls on the ground as soon as he leaves.

When Gabby (Rosie Bentham) arrives, she is horrified to see her stepmother breathing heavily and having trouble moving. After dialling an ambulance, Gabby attempts to reach Jai, but he doesn’t answer.

He’s at the Hide trying to muster the guts to be honest with Suni. Gabby’s constant calling annoys him, but when he does respond, he’s surprised to learn that Laurel has been taken to the hospital.

What has become of Laurel? Will she be alright?
