In Emmerdale, Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) received a lifeline lately when her ex-husband Gus Malcolms (Alan McKenna) proposed a solution that would allow her to maintain regular contact with baby Ivy.
Since Gus revealed his intention to go to France with Ivy, meaning Rhona would scarcely get to watch the young girl grow up, the two have been at odds.
Although Rhona does not now have a legal claim to Ivy according to UK law, their link was strengthened over the weeks that Rhona, Marlon (Mark Charnock), and Mary (Louise Jameson) spent caring for Ivy when Gus was unable to. This attachment was formed since Ivy is genetically Rhona’s kid.
Rhona could not take the thought of losing Ivy, so she and the infant left the village.

Rhona was consequently faced with a kidnapping allegation and the prospect of a jail sentence.
April (Amelia Flanagan) became involved recently when she made the decision to visit Gus in order to argue on behalf of her stepmother.
Gus became irate when April disclosed that Rhona intended to enter a not guilty plea to the kidnapping accusation. He understood that a trial could potentially uncover his own misconduct in using the embryo that he and Rhona had frozen without obtaining her consent.
Gus eventually made Rhona an offer of a compromise, changing their statements and working for a not guilty verdict.
By canceling the sale of his house, he indicated that he would stay close by and would not be moving to France after all. For Rhona, the deal would primarily entail having access to Ivy.
According to Zoe Henry, “it’s the tiniest chink of light because it’s actually what she wants.”
The fact that she absconded with Ivy just serves to highlight the extreme lengths she was willing to go to. She’s willing to stake everything on Gus’s honesty, even though she may not truly believe him in her heart of hearts. Thus, despite the fact that it terrifies her a little, I believe this is a welcome offer.
Unfortunately, Rhona learns in later episodes that her misgivings were validated and that Gus has been playing her like a fool with no intention of keeping his word.
She determines there is only one course of action after learning this new information: she will keep battling for Ivy until her daughter is ultimately placed in her custody.
